Springtime temps continue with rain chances returning


On and off showers with some thunderstorms mixed in at times will gradually return to the area with isolated chances today but scattered to widespread chances Thursday. At least temperatures will remain springlike with highs hovering from the mid-50s into the upper-70s between now and the end of next week.

Today will be a mix of sunshine and cloud coverage with isolated showers possible in southern Minnesota but more scattered showers possible for portions of north, northeastern Iowa. Showers for southern Minnesota will be more so in the morning and not everyone will be affected by the morning isolated rain chances. For northern to northeastern Iowa, showers will be more scattered with higher accumulation anticipated. Regardless of where you are, temperatures across the area will rise into the upper-60s and low-70s. Winds will be relatively light up to 10 mph; however, areas with isolated showers to scattered showers may experience slightly stronger winds at times. Tonight will become mostly cloudy across the area as temperatures drop into the mid-40s with more isolated to scattered rain chances possible.

Thursday will then be mostly cloudy with scattered showers moving in through the late morning hours. From there, showers will likely become widespread with a few thunderstorms mixed within the showers around the area. Temperatures will remain mild with highs hovering in the mid-50s as winds reach between 10 and 20 mph, gusts up to 30 mph at times. Thursday night will continue with mostly cloudy skies, showers and possible thunderstorms continuing around the area, and temperatures dropping into the mid-40s by Friday morning.

From there, Friday will start off with mostly cloudy skies and lingering morning showers before gradually clearing up. This means we are anticipating afternoon sunshine as clouds clear up. With the help of the sunshine, temperatures are projected to rise into the low-60s with winds remaining breezy, ranging between 15 and 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph at times. Friday night will then continue to be mostly clear as temperatures drop into the upper-30s by Saturday morning.

Saturday and Sunday of this weekend is going to be a mix of sunshine (on Saturday) and mostly cloudy skies (by Sunday). Temperatures will be on the more pleasant side with highs in the mid-60s on Saturday as winds reach between 10 and 15 mph, gusts up to 20 mph at times possible. Skies become mostly cloudy overnight as temperatures drop into the upper-40s by Sunday morning. With the clouds moving in by Sunday morning, showers and a few thunderstorms are anticipated to return to the area with the passage of a cold front by Monday afternoon. Showers will move in through the late morning and early afternoon hours and continue into the evening and overnight hours. Despite the cloudy skies and rain chances, temperatures on Sunday will be on the warmer side with highs hovering in the low-70s. Winds will be strong, ranging between 20 and 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph at times possible. Sunday night will remain windy and rainy as temperatures drop into the low-60s by Monday morning.

The cold front is projected to move through the area by Monday afternoon/evening. This means that showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast throughout Monday along with windy conditions and warm temperatures. We are looking at highs hovering in the upper-70s with some areas possibly looking at the low-80s! Winds will be on the strong side again, ranging between 20 and 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph at times possible. Rain is projected to continue overnight into Tuesday morning as temperatures drop into the mid-50s.

Tuesday will then start off mostly cloudy with lingering showers throughout the morning and afternoon hours. Temperatures will be slightly cooler following Monday’s cold front with highs topping out in the mid-60s. Winds will still be on the breezy side, ranging between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph at times possible. Tuesday night will gradually become partly cloudy as rain chances move out of the area and temperatures drop into the low to mid-40s by Wednesday morning.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week will be a mixed bag of sunshine and quiet conditions and rain chances at times. We are looking at mostly sunny skies on Wednesday and Friday with partly cloudy skies and a chance of showers mixed in throughout Thursday. Temperatures over those three days, regardless of the amount of sunshine or rain chances in the forecast, will hover in the mid-60s with winds ranging between 5 and 15 mph with occasional gusts up to 20 mph at times. Overnight temperatures will continue to be mild, dropping into the mid to upper-40s by the following mornings.
