3 scariest SEC baseball teams to face in the 2025 conference tournament
The Montgomery Advertiser’s Adam Cole breaks down why Auburn, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are the toughest teams to play in the 2025 SEC baseball tournament.
The SEC is the preeminent conference in college baseball, with each of the past five national champions calling the league home.
This year, the composition of the conference has changed, but its status atop the sport hasn’t.
Following the additions of Texas and Oklahoma in advance of the 2024-25 academic year, the SEC remains a baseball juggernaut, with six of the top 10 and 10 of the top 25 teams in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. That group includes No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Texas and No. 4 Arkansas, putting the league in a strong position to add another NCAA champion to its already lengthy resume this year.
This week, the question of who’s the best team in the conference will be settled.
The 2025 SEC baseball tournament got underway Tuesday and will continue Wednesday with the second round in Hoover, Alabama, when what began as a 16-team field will narrow even more.
The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament, though for many of the league’s teams, they’re playing for seeding in the tournament, not whether they’re ultimately able to get an invitation. For others, like No. 14 seed and reigning national runner-up Texas A&M, how it fares in the SEC tournament will determine its NCAA tournament fate.

SEC baseball tournament games today
There are four games scheduled for the 2025 SEC baseball tournament Wednesday. That second-round slate includes four teams that received a first-round bye: No. 5 seed Georgia, No. 6 seed Auburn, No. 7 seed Ole Miss, and No. 8 seed and reigning NCAA champion Tennessee.
The schedule got a bit of a tweak Tuesday night when rain at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama pushed the start of the final first-round game, No. 11 seed Mississippi State against No. 14 seed Texas A&M, to Wednesday morning. In turn, that delay postponed the second-round game between Auburn and the Mississippi State-Texas A&M winner to Thursday at 11 a.m. CT.
Here’s a look at Wednesday’s schedule in the SEC baseball tournament:
