Mirra Andreeva is still only 17-years-old, but had her first breakthrough on the WTA Tour in 2023.
Andreeva won the Indian Wells title last week, extending her winning streak to 12 matches after winning back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments.
While this was arguably the biggest moment of Andreeva’s career so far, fans were critical of the Indian Wells final due to its scheduling.
Having now reached a career-high ranking of world number six, Andreeva has looked back on when she won her first match on the WTA Tour as a 15-year-old.
Mirra Andreeva says that Bianca Andreescu was the only WTA player to message her
Andreeva played her first WTA match at the Jasmin Open in Monastir in 2022, losing in three sets to compatriot Anastasia Potapova.
However, it was not until the Madrid Open the following year, where Andreeva obtained her first main tour win over 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez.
The teenager made it all the way to the fourth round that year, with Andreeva eventually losing to Aryna Sabalenka.
When speaking in her press conference ahead of the WTA 1000 Miami Open, Andreeva revealed that 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu was one of the only players to reach out to her at the time.
Andreescu, who is currently out of action, also sent Andreeva a message after she won Indian Wells.
“It was my first tournament in Madrid and it was kind of a breakthrough tournament and I lost in the round of 16,” said Andreeva.
“And after, I think even during the tournament I got a message from Bianca Andreescu and she was actually the first one and I think the only female tennis player that texted me and she said that if I need any advice or any support I can always reach out to her and we can have a chat or a call or whatever, so she was super nice about it.
“She also texted me after I won the tournament [Indian Wells], she told me some nice worlds.”

While Andreescu continues her absence from the WTA Tour, Andreeva is bidding for history at the Miami Open.
Could Mirra Andreeva complete the sunshine double?
With Andreeva winning Indian Wells, she now has the possibility to make history at the second half of the sunshine double at the Miami Open.
Only four other WTA singles player in history have completed the sunshine double in Steffi Graf (1994 and 1996), Kim Clijsters (2005), Victoria Azarenka (2016) and Iga Swiatek (2022).
Swiatek, who Andreeva beat at Indian Wells, is the youngest player to have achieved the feat so far having done it at 20-years-old in 2022.
This means that 17-year-old Andreeva could smash that record if she is to win the Miami Open on her first appearance at the tournament.
