Paul McCartney has written thousands upon thousands of songs. Frankly, it might be unfair if he didn’t give one away every so often. McCartney is a known collaborator and has done so more than one can count. However, what we can count is how many times he gave away a song with no intention of appearing on it. This isn’t a bad thing, of course, as McCartney is a guy who wants to see his work through tell the end. That being said, there were a couple of times when that was not the case.
The bulk of McCartney’s success evidently comes from his time with The Beatles. Though without The Beatles, McCartney still executed a solo career of high regard. Needless to say, the man is a musical toolbox, and can seemingly fix up a song faster than you can cook your Sunday night dinner. On that note, here are three times Paul McCartney wrote songs for other artists.
“I Wanna Be Your Man” by The Rolling Stones
Originally written by McCartney and John Lennon for The Beatles and Ringo Starr, McCartney decided to give this track to The Beatles’ main competitor, The Rolling Stones. Released in 1963, the McCartney-Lennon-written track helped put the Rolling Stones on the map.
Following its release, the single scored the Stones their first ever Top 20 hit in the UK, as it peaked at no. 12 on the British chart. It was The Rolling Stones’ first hit of many, and it’s all thanks to Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
“Come And Get It” by Badfinger
Badfinger is primarily known for their popular singles “Baby Blue”, “Day After Day”, and “No Matter What”. In addition to these singles, another one of their popular tunes is the track written by Paul McCartney, “Come And Get It”.
Released in 1970, the single acquired loads of success on the charts and even became the theme song for the film The Magic Christian. On the charts, “Come And Get It” peaked at no. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at no. 4 in the UK. Needless to say, everything McCartney touches becomes a chart-topping success.
“Mine For Me” by Rod Stewart
Paul McCartney’s other songwriting partner was his wife, Linda McCartney. Before her passing, the duo wrote Rod Stewart’s 1974 hit single “Mine For Me”. Stewart released the song on his album Smiler. Upon its 1974 release, the single peaked at no. 91 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Also, the single helped Stewart’s album peak at no. 13 on the Billboard 200. The song didn’t perform incredibly well on the charts, but regardless, Paul proved once again that he could create something for anybody.
